No, I did not shape them like goldfish, but they are puffy and crisp like the real thing.
- 1 c flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/4 c cheddar cheese powder
- 2 tbsp butter
- 3/4 c cold water
Stir flour, salt, baking powder, sugar and cheese powder together until fully mixed. Use a pastry knife or fork to cut butter into mixture until you have pea size crumbs. Add water and stir to combine with rubber spatula or use your hands to fully mix. Move to flour dusted counter and knead dough for 5 minutes. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate 8 hours to overnight.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Dust work surface or a sheet of parchment paper thoroughly with flour. Shape dough into a rectangle. Roll out til about 1/4 inch thickness. Use pizza cutter, knife or pastry knife to cut into approximately 1 inch squares. Spread pieces out so they won’t stick together while baking. I usually split them between two pans.
Bake for 15 minutes. I recommend rotating your pan(s) halfway through baking for more even crisping. Remove and let them completely cool. They will continue to crisp up as they cool.
